My new favourite Ice cream
I have a huge soft spot for Vermont’s Finest – Ben & Jerry’s. Before you say it, I know they are owned by Unilever, but that doesn’t detract that in 1978 two greedy blokes decided to make start a business making Ice cream – simply because it was one of their favourite things! It was a company which was successful because people liked the product and felt that the company had honest pretensions.
Named after a Vermont rock band, Phish Food was launched in 1997 and now 12 years later we have Phish Food Frozen Yogurt. Normally I’m not the biggest fan of frozen yoghurt, but the familiar act of mining the seam of caramel and digging out those little chocolate fish, distract you from the fact that it’s not actually ice cream. It’s 60% less fat, but at 240 calories per 100ml (or 1200 for the tub) it’s hardly the dieters friend! In fact the full fat version is only 270 calories per 100ml, so it’s up to you whether you want your calories from fat (19% vs 5%) or sugar (22g vs 35g) – either way it’s an entirely enjoyable way of getting them!
Just one thing, I can’t help thinking that the product shot of the Phish Food Frozen Yogurt bears an uncanny resemblance to the Ice cream version as featured on their web site. What do you think?
