About the list…
It seems arbitrary and rather ad hoc, but there is a logic behind the choice of foods on the list. Everything on there has to be a food, rather than an ingredient. I felt there was no point starting to include individual ingredients (onions being the exception that proves the rule), that way madness lies! Your list just becomes an extended shopping list, full of store cupboard essentials, fruit and veg. Also no generic foods – so pizza, curries, chinese food fall outside the remit of inclusion. Obviously, there are elements of those ‘cuisines’ that make it into the 100, but only elements.
I’ve tried to list my reasons for their inclusion (and there is always a reason!), but the standard I used was, if I could only have 100 things to eat for the rest of my life (and bugger the concequences) what would they be?
So this is what I came up…
